Latest Décor Trends Surprise Some

The old and dark décor and appliances of the 2010s have met their match. Today’s trends scream bright and almost “farmhouse-ish.”

Accent colors have always been popular, and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. Accents of navy blue have been and will continue to be widely popular this year in remodels and decorating. Navy blue is sophisticated and subtle, but will compliment light tones such as grey and white.

We are in 2020, but the comeback of wallpaper will make you feel like we’re in the ‘80s. You read that right. Wallpaper is making a comeback. Wallpaper can be an interesting accent to a room, but can easily become overwhelming. It’s best to use it in small rooms, such as bathrooms and offices or even as an accent wall in a larger space.

The all-white kitchen has been a staple in remodels for years now. Expect to see more than just white in kitchens. Wood shelving and cabinets, black and gold accents, and even pops of color are becoming more and more popular in kitchen remodels. These things still allow the space to feel open and bright, but don’t restrict a homeowner to an all-white kitchen.
Incorporating natural elements, such as greenery and various plants can add a sophisticated but homey feel to various areas of your home. We all know it’s a challenge to keep house plants alive, in turn making the fake-yet-also-realistic plant popular. A small plant or flower on a shelf or an olive tree, for example, in the corner of a room can be an easy but elegant way to spice up a room.

Along with wallpaper, vintage décor may also be making a comeback. It’s time to dig out the vintage pieces you’ve kept in your basement for 20 years. They say “what goes around comes back around,” and décor is no exception. Pieces such as trunks, old ladders, wire hangers, wooden frames from old windows, and even your antique plates can add charm when decorating.

For years now, stainless steel appliances have replaced our black and white appliances of the past. But, in 2020, black appliances and black matte finishes are finding their way back into our kitchens. Along with black matte finishes, accessibility and technology are both quite trendy. A handle on the fridge? Not in 2020! Some refrigerators are now installed with Auto Assist, which will open the fridge for you when cooking. Bluetooth isn’t just for your phone. Appliances now have Bluetooth capabilities to help with cook times and preheating.

Our vintage décor pieces and printed wallpaper are both coming back into style, our microwaves can talk, our stoves can connect to our phones, and our fridge comes without a handle. It’s safe to say 2020 has been the most difficult and strange year we’ve had yet, and we’re only halfway through.
